Mickey Pujolar Leray is a French-Spanish artist born in Levallois-Perret in 1991.

He lives and works in Vancouver, Canada.

Contrast lies at the core of Mickey Pujolar Leray’s practice:
shadow and light, creation and destruction.

Up close, the raw marks of the surface reveal the fragility of a manual process. From a distance, the fragmented field resolves into an image that appears almost photographic. The work is not concerned with representation but with subtraction — with the question of what remains when everything else is on the verge of disappearance.

Pujolar Leray constructs images of spaces defined by absence: kitchens, bedrooms, cathedral naves, fields of trees bent by the wind — environments reduced to their essential structure.
Each work unfolds as a gradual revelation. Drawing, cutting, inking and tearing become part of a physical process in which layers are slowly removed rather than added.
Through this act of erosion, the image emerges.

The surface is treated as a site of excavation. Marks, ruptures and tears expose the underlying structure of the image, revealing traces of presence embedded within the material itself. What appears is not simply a depiction of a place but the residue of a space — a memory inscribed in the surface.
